2020 POINT FORTIN BORO DAY CELEBRATIONS POSTPONED.

The 2020 Borough Day festivities, regarded by many as Trinidad’s biggest event after Carnival, has been postponed. The office of the Point Fortin Mayor made the official pronouncement earlier today.

“Any one case is too much”. This is how Point Fortin Mayor, His Worship, Kennedy Richards, summarized his Council’s decision to postpone the 2020 Point Fortin Borough Day Celebrations. He said, his Council was monitoring the global progression of the Coronavirus, (COVID-19) and a prior decision was already made, which was, should any local case be identified, a further decision would have to be taken and such decision is now taken to postpone.

He further went on to state, he understands the economic value “Borough Day” would have contributed to the local communities however, he believes this decision is for the benefit of everyone, especially the most vulnerable within the community.

The Point Fortin Council had already finalized details for hosting this year’s celebrations. Mayor Richards told Point Alive, plans were already in place for an extravagant celebration to commemorate the Borough’s 40th anniversary.

Though another period for hosting the festivities is currently being thought looked at, the Mayor did not divulge further.

Celebrations are normally held for three and a half to four weeks. This year, festivities would have begun on April 11th.
