KESS, IWER OUT FRONT IN ROAD MARCH RACE.

It’s approaching the end of January, after which will be just 24 days left to Carnival 2020 and Soca fans are eagerly anticipating the release of a “monster” Road March contender, at any minute, from “Soca Boss” Machel Montano. The anxiety stems from last week’s release of Kess Dieffanthaller’s and Neil “Iwer” George’s collaborative release of “Stage Gone Bad”, which has been described by many as being the lead contender for this year’s national Road March title.

The collaboration between George and Kess has been having rave reviews immediately upon release and was further endorsed by many on Social Media after videos showcasing the duet’s first live performance of the song at “Gateway To The World Fete” last Saturday and subsequently Iwer’s performance at Hybrid Nation’s Fitness Event on Sunday at Lady Chancellor in Port of Spain.

Many believe that the George, Dieffanthaller combination has merged supporters spanning a wide segment of the “class spectrum” within Trinidad and Tobago. Iwer representing the grassroots and Kess, for the more urban spread. Some Soca pundits indicates that such a combination will be difficult to overthrow, even by any perceived Soca Mafia.

The song, Stage Gone Bad, embraces typical elements of Road March hits of previous years, linking, sing-along hook lines within the verses, leading into a bridge which in this instance is somewhat extended by George in a deliberate effort to build hype which climaxes with dramatic bars featuring dominant purcusive elements,  with repetaive snare drum strikes smoothly flowing into the two (2) part chorus.

Other would-be contenders are Superblue with *Strange Things”, Machel & Iwer with “Counch Shell” among others.
