NEW MAYOR OPENS CONVENIENCE FACILITIES.

Newly elected Point Fortin Mayor, Kennedy Richards Jr, on Saturday 21st December, opened the newly built Public Convenience Facilities, at the Point Fortin Market. Following a brief introduction by Alderman Leslie Chang Fong, the Mayor, assisted by the Corporation’s CEO, Mrs. Donnamay Taylor, cut the ceremonial ribbon, to officially open the facilities.

Mayor Richards indicated that the public facilities were built to cater primarily for market vendors and shoppers. He said he was satisfied with what he saw, though he would like to see, amenities included to accommodate mothers or fathers who may have babies accompanying them and may need to use the facilities. The facilities are located to the extreme left of the market and a maintenance upkeep fee of $2 will be charged for its use.

Following the ceremonial opening, the Mayor conducted a walk through the market, meeting and speaking with market vendors and shoppers. He listened to complaints, which were primarily related to leaks stemming from an undersized guttering, just outside the “meat section” and some other areas. The Mayor, is no stranger to the market, was congratulated by many and at times, kept in lengthy conversations.

Other officials onhand for the ceremonial opening were, Deputy Mayor, Saleema Thomas, Councillor Lyndon Harris, and the Corporation’s “Town Engineer”.

The new facilities were built by Ken Gopeesingh Contracting Services.
