Having successfully completed her Secondary Schooling with all passes in her area of study (predominantly sciences), she was accepted at both University of the West Indies (UWI) Campuses, Cave Hill in Barbados and Mona, Jamaica, however the choice was made to continue her career in medicine at the Cave Hill Campus in Barbados.

Apart from her career dreams, Mya loves to dance. At four (4) years old she began ballet classes with now deceased Ardia Yearwood’s, “AMY School of Dance”.  As a teenager she performed with “Sky Academy” dance group of Point Fortin which is directed by Keiron Baptiste.  Mya danced at many Best Village presentations and at the recently concluded Carifesta Festival.

At this year’s Emancipation Celebrations in Point Fortin, together with other members of Sky Academy, she joined the Lake View cast where she was engaged in dance as “Borough Queen” during the procession through the streets of Point Fortin and at the subsequent celebration held at the Lake View Community in Point Fortin.

After being crowned Miss Point Fortin 2019, Mya participated in a Charity Event hosted by the Point Fortin Aqua Darts to raise funds for their Swim Team, and made appearances at other events including visits to various hospitality suites during the 2019 Borough Day Festival.

Being an offspring of rooted Point Fortin families, the Bartholomew’s and Tysons, her grandfather being popular community barber, Earl Bartholomew aka “Peck” (deceased), who is the father of Wayne Bartholomew, her dad. Her grandmother, a former matron at the Point Fortin Area Hospital, Nurse Melva Tyson, (deceased), who is the mother of her mom, Wendy-Ann Tyson-Bartholomew. Mya is grounded in Point Fortin as any other resident can claim.

Mya believes she is a unique individual just as her birthdate is unique. Born on first day of the first month in the first year of the twenty-first century, this uniqueness gives her extra motivation to perform exceptionally well at whatever she does. Her mantra is to keep focus on the positives and keep striving for excellence.
