IPHONE 11 PRO – IS IT WORTH THE HYPE?

The new IPhone 11 Pro Max release date is September 20th 2019 and while many current IPhone users are excited about the new Apple device, the question remains, is this phone really worth its price?
The market price for the IPhone 11 Pro Max is $1,099 USD. This is the 64GB version. There is also the 256GB and 512GB costing extra. Although this phone packs an enormous amount of processing power with Apple’s Hexa Core A13 Bionic Chipset, the newest and fastest processor available for mobile phones, newly added features such as its triple camera layout with inclusion of an Ultra Wide Lens and the front facing 12-megapixel sensor camera are considered relative old technology when compared to other competitive phone manufacturers Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, One Plus and others. The Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ has a four (4) rear cameras.

Many Phone enthusiasts have been for years crediting Apple for their successful marketing strategies. Apple’s ability to launch a new product with technology already utilized by other manufacturers but still create the impression as if its new cutting edge technology, has been hailed as impressive.
Features such as fast and wireless charging, IP 68 certification (waterproofing), finger print unlocking, face recognition, night photography etc. were utilized by devices from other manufacturers long before implementation into IPhones, but somehow, when Apple launches their phones with the features, the Apple world gets excited as if the features are revolutionary.

Spec for spec, the IPhone Pro and Pro Max are just about comparable with other flagship devices and lags in features and general specifications when compared to others. Also, the square rear triple camera layout is considered unattractive, when matched to other slim, rectangular and less intrusive design look, found on other brands such as Samsung, Huawei and Xiaomi etc.

The battery on the IPhone 11 Pro Max is a Li-Ion 3500 mAh, while the Note 10+ comes with the higher capacity Li-Ion 4300 mAh battery with fast charging at 45W while the IPhone fast charging is rated at 18W. The IPhone does not support wireless charging which Samsung introduced more than five (5) years ago with the Note 5 and S6 series.
The Note 10+ also has reverse QI wireless charging which enables QI certified devices to be charged wirelessly from the Note 10+ directly. This feature is also found in other Samsung and Huawei devices, but it’s not technology Apple has gotten into at this stage. Maybe, just like with other already existing features, when this is introduced by Apple, there will be the associated hype, hailing it as a new feature as typically done with apple.

Face recognition remains the featured unlocking method for recent Apple phones, the IPhone 11 Pro Max is no different.
Samsung, One Plus, Huawei and also introduced “In Glass Optical Fingerprint Sensors” in their Flagship models. This is another technology feature which has so far eluded Apple.

With respect to gaming and video rendering, generally all current flagship phones perform quite well and handles all performance intensive applications quite well.
It must be noted the RAM IPhone still lags at 4GB and 6GB while other mentioned brands have their flagship models with 6GB as minimum with the Galaxy Note 10+ punching a whooping 12GB RAM.
Theoretically, this places the IPhone 11 Pro Max at a specification disadvantage but in reality, performance may not be hindered due to the previously mentioned super-fast Apple A13 Bionic chipset installed and Apple’s known ability to utilize RAM much better than other brands.
The Note 10+ also has expandable external storage which practically doubles the capacity of the phone. Another feature which the IPhone does not have.

Overall, the design of modern flagship phones are very impressive. Most have increased their screen to bezel ratio to afford the user a better viewing experience.  Apart from Apple, other brands have gone for a small in-screen notch used for the Selfie Camera, however, due to the necessity for having more sensors which are used for face recognition and other features, the IPhone has a sizable cut-out area within its display which reduces the user’s viewing experience. We must mention that Apple’s facial recognition feature is the best on the market.

Cost wise, the IPhone 11 Pro Max and the base version Galaxy Note 10+ starts at the same price. $1,099 USD. However, for that price the 11 Pro Max comes with 256GB storage while the 10+ has double its Apple competitor with 512GB.
The view expressed by most phone techies is, bang for bang the IPhone 11 Pro Max is not worth its price when compared with other brands.  Recently, Huawei surpassed Apple as the world’s second largest mobile phone seller.  Some are of the view that buyers are becoming more knowledgeable regarding specifications and features offered by Apple and what is offered by other brands.

s the saying goes: All what an IPhone can do, other brands can do, but other brands can show off things which IPhones can’t.
